Ruby Ruby Ruby Rubyyyyyy!

Is the name of the new track from the Kaiser Chiefs!
It's also the name of my special guest on Teenage Thursdays tonight and the young singer-songwriter was excellent. Ruby is only 15 but she has already won a local Teen Idol competition and she will be appearing at my next Jam Junior at the Savoy in February alongside her friend Alex, who will be dropping some rhymes! I played two of Ruby's tracks and they were really good, she really has some voice for someone so young. She is also really confident and this made for an enjoyable interview, the time just flew by! We got loads of texts from listeners and even after the show they were still coming in. She made a great impression with me aswell and I'm look forward to her forthcoming appearances in the Savoy and at the next Youth Culture workshop ("Da Beatz") which I'm gonna help run at the Triskel.

Teenage Thursdays Returns with Anacrusis!

I was delighted to welcome back my Teenage Thursdays segment of my Music Overload show on RedFM tonight. Three young guys called Anacrusis were my guests and they are a very bright and smart young band who in their own words are a blend of everything from "rock, jazz, techno, drum and bass, latin fushion and classical, placing them in a world of fushion/abstract/expeirimental and art-house sound"

Aaron, Diego and Laim are aged 16-18 and they are very good; It shows that they have been working together since 2002 and It's great to see a young band so mature and open-minded!
Some of their influences include Miles Davis, Yann Tiersen, King Crimson, Incubus, James Brown, Unkle, Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, DJ Shadow, DJ Krush, Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Mars Volta, Planet X, Jimi Hendrix and much more

We had a good chat about their music influences and vibes, it was laid-back as usaal and the lads were evry good on air and very articulate. I was relieved to get them on air at all after Liams Car broke down in Wilton but they just made it in the end!

Watch out for Anacrusis these guys they are definitely worth checking out! Find out more at www.myspace.com/anacrusis0

Next week I'm featuring a 15 year old singer named Ruby!

I'm a DJ from Cork in Ireland. I work with RedFM, presenting Red Drive, The Hitlist and my specialist show, Black on Red. I'm probably best known for being one of the main hip-hop/soul DJ's in Cork and Ireland. I've been DJing in Cork since the early 90's in legendary clubnights such as Sweat in Sir Henrys, Mor Disco, Free La Funk, Yo Latino and also Jam and Jam Junior at the Savoy and the Pavilion. I've also held down long term residencies at clubs around Ireland such as Brown Sugar at the Kitchen in Dublin, U-Turn at Ri Ra in Dublin, Jazz Juice at the GPO in Galway, Thompson Garage in Belfast, the Soul Clinic, Dee-Bop, Meltdown and Mo Bounce in Limerick and i've played abroad in the United States and the U.K. on numerous occasions. I also write a music column for the Evening Echo and i'm a regular contributor to the U.K.'s Blues and Soul, the longest running black music magazine in the world. These days i run the Pavilion, a music venue in Cork, which hosts my Jam night every few Fridays http://www.pavilioncork.com also you can catch me at http://djstevieg.podomatic.com
