Qool DJ Marv on Sunday!
Qool DJ Marv has been very close to some of my musical associates (like Aran from Shake in Galway and Fat City in Manchester) for years. Unbelievably, he has never spun in Cork before but this all changed on Sunday at the Savoy. He was excellent and showed what a class DJ he is by smoothly building it from solid unbderground hip-hop (by the likes of Mos Def and Roots Manuva) to some soul and disco classics ("All I Do" by Stevie Wonder was the tune of the night). I'm broadcasting some of the mix on Black on Red this Saturday and i'm delighted to announce that he will co-present this show with me for his return visit to the Savoy in October! Some of Cork's finest break-dancing talent helped out too, and it was great to see B-Boy Silt again!
Qool DJ Marv is a true gent aswell as a wicked DJ so I'm looking forward to many more good times with him in Cork. Check him out at buttamilk.com Good to see my fellow blogger Pure Cork Boy in person too, always nice to put a face on a blog! Also, major shouts to the Wicked Chicken crew in Limerick, Jay-Ru in Waterford and Salvatore (pic on the left) for the antics on the dancefloor!

About Me
- StevieG
- I'm a DJ from Cork in Ireland. I work with RedFM, presenting Red Drive, The Hitlist and my specialist show, Black on Red. I'm probably best known for being one of the main hip-hop/soul DJ's in Cork and Ireland. I've been DJing in Cork since the early 90's in legendary clubnights such as Sweat in Sir Henrys, Mor Disco, Free La Funk, Yo Latino and also Jam and Jam Junior at the Savoy and the Pavilion. I've also held down long term residencies at clubs around Ireland such as Brown Sugar at the Kitchen in Dublin, U-Turn at Ri Ra in Dublin, Jazz Juice at the GPO in Galway, Thompson Garage in Belfast, the Soul Clinic, Dee-Bop, Meltdown and Mo Bounce in Limerick and i've played abroad in the United States and the U.K. on numerous occasions. I also write a music column for the Evening Echo and i'm a regular contributor to the U.K.'s Blues and Soul, the longest running black music magazine in the world. These days i run the Pavilion, a music venue in Cork, which hosts my Jam night every few Fridays http://www.pavilioncork.com also you can catch me at http://djstevieg.podomatic.com

Thanks for the mention, the fame's going to my head! Sorry for acting a bit phased when we spoke, it's your celebrity status, it just proved too much for me and I was having difficulty stringing a few decent sentences together! :-)
For me, the best track of the night was "Witness" by Roots Manuva, I really enjoyed dancing to that one early on in the night!
I haven't written a decent blog post in over a month so I'm going to try and put up some stuff over the weekend about a few of the recent acts I've seen at the Savoy... DJ Cash Money, Calibre, Qool DJ Marv... in fairness, the Savoy is continuing to bring in top Hip Hop, House and Drum'n'Bass acts and Cork would be a much duller place without it!
I'm planning to go see some Polish Hip Hop in Cyprus Avenue on Sunday (I think). My brother works with some Poles who were rappers and djs back in Poland and they're well in with the guys that will be playing so it should be an interesting night! Must remember to bring my fecking camera for that one...
No probz man great to see ya! Public Enemy have just been announced for Cor today too so i'm sure you'll enjoy that! I'll send ya an email too later regards that chat we had-nice one man! The Polish thing sounds very good there's a good hip-hop scene over there I might be spinning there soon!
And yeah; "Witness", what a tune!
