No Gilesy or Brady, but Eamonn Dunphy and Miss Cork!

Spent this morning DJing at the launch of Ireland’s first 3 mobile-media store down at Patrick's St next to the Savoy! Eamonn Dunphy and Miss Cork, Stephanie Barry were two of the star attractions and as much as I disagree with Eamonn's verdict on all things Manchester United, I had to admire his professionalism and patience today as he signed hundreds of autographs and posed for loads of pics with eager Cork people of all ages. He was quite open about he fact that his T.V. persona is a reaction to the blandness that we get listening to BBC, Sky and ITV sports pundits and he was also very forthcoming in his praise of Cork and of course our main man, Roy Keane. By lunchtime I was finished but it was only a quarter of my day down as I proceeded on to the Triskel where I was helping organise a Youth Culture Workshop/Showcase called Da Beatz-I was too busy to take shots but i'll try and get some pics of the Showcase up after the weekend-have a good one!

Jam Junior Halloween Party at the Savoy!

The youth of Cork were out in full effect for our big Halloween Party in the Savoy last night. Jam Junior is an under 18's hip-hop based music event that aims to showcase the best in teenage music talent. I was joined by local rappers Mickey Gatch, Sintar, Nash, Kid Smooch, DJ Nitefire, Ian Ring, Alan F, Dingey, funksters The Impressionists and our excellent break-dancers, the Rhythm Rebels, who stole the show with an incredible performance right in front of my me-enjoy the pics, Jam Junior is back on January 1st!

The Jazz Festival Part 2-People Under the Stairs and Giant Panda

More from my piece in da Echo!

The Festival was hit by the
cancellation of Freddie Hubbard a few weeks ago and it was also
unfortunate that another jazz legend was unable to travle to Cork
because of illness. Lou Donaldson was missed on Sunday but at least
Dr Lonnie Smith capably stepped in and he was joined later on that
day by the Mingus Dynasty Band who performed some fine Charlie Mingus
numbers. The hip-hop double bill of Giant Panda and People Under the
Stairs brought to an end my weekend in the Savoy and both acts
demonstrated once again that there's a world of qulaity hip-hop music
that never gets played on MTV. All in all, it was a busy few days,
roll on next year!

Yo this is my blog that's updated pretty much every day before 1pm Irish time

Hope you enjoy!

I'm a DJ from Cork in Ireland. I work with RedFM, presenting Red Drive, The Hitlist and my specialist show, Black on Red. I'm probably best known for being one of the main hip-hop/soul DJ's in Cork and Ireland. I've been DJing in Cork since the early 90's in legendary clubnights such as Sweat in Sir Henrys, Mor Disco, Free La Funk, Yo Latino and also Jam and Jam Junior at the Savoy and the Pavilion. I've also held down long term residencies at clubs around Ireland such as Brown Sugar at the Kitchen in Dublin, U-Turn at Ri Ra in Dublin, Jazz Juice at the GPO in Galway, Thompson Garage in Belfast, the Soul Clinic, Dee-Bop, Meltdown and Mo Bounce in Limerick and i've played abroad in the United States and the U.K. on numerous occasions. I also write a music column for the Evening Echo and i'm a regular contributor to the U.K.'s Blues and Soul, the longest running black music magazine in the world. These days i run the Pavilion, a music venue in Cork, which hosts my Jam night every few Fridays http://www.pavilioncork.com also you can catch me at http://djstevieg.podomatic.com
